Merits S141 Pioneer 4 Narrow Medium-sized 4-Wheeled All-terrain Mobility Scooter
Mobility scooters were created for people who are challenged by walking up inclines or long distances. We offer a wide variety of mobility scooters that come in a number of styles which can accommodate the needs of many different users. When choosing a mobility scooter you should consider if the scooter will be used indoors, outdoors or both. If you will need to transport the scooter in a vehicle, you'll need to look at collapsible scooters.
Mobility scooters have four features which are different from power wheelchairs; they are steered by a tiller at the front that can be tilted and locked allowing a safe and comfortable ride. Forward and reverse motion is controlled by two thumb levers. Scooter seats are usually mounted on a column that allows rotating from side to side, unlike wheelchairs. Scooters also have one solid base platform instead of seperate footrests. Our staff can walk you through the process of finding the right mobility scooter to fulfill your needs.
Below is a brief outline of the three types of mobility scooters:
Foldable or Transportable Mobility Scooters:
These scooters are perfect for the active person who likes to travel. Additionally, foldable scooters, often called travel scooters, disassemble into light parts that are easy to lift into the trunk of most cars; some parts only weigh 24-29 lbs! Some of our scooters even fold in a piece of luggage-like package. These travel scooters are airline safe because of sealed batteries. We do suggest checking with your airline when booking your flight.
3 Wheel Mobility Scooters:
Full featured scooters with excellent maneuverability both in your home or outside. Three wheeled scooters offer full-size comfort and are ideal for both indoor maneuverability and outdoor durability. Scooters in this category offer a wide array of features including: swivel seats, arms rests, storage baskets and more. With a maximum weight capacity of 300 to 500 lbs even larger framed users can be accommodated.
4 Wheel Mobility Scooters:
The fourth wheel and wider wheel base are the most stable platform in the mobility scooter category. Four wheel mobility scooters are designed for maximum stability and built specifically for outdoor use. Some larger models have knobby tires and high ground clearance; these scooters are best for rugged terrain. Some models offer a range of 25+ miles per charge and a top speed of 10 mph! The wide wheel base, which makes the 4 wheel mobility scooters great for outdoor use, often makes the turning radius wide as well. Indoor users with tight living spaces should keep this in mind.
We've also have a full selection of mobility scooter accessories!
